I’m a great believer in getting the children involved with making their own food, mainly to help to inspire them to try new things.
Taking this theory a step further our latest project is to “grow our food from seeds” and now that the days are a bit cooler its a perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors a bit more as well.
Having a young crazy Boxer Pup in the family meant that the raised garden beds weren’t going to work – Anything that we planted there would immediately be dug back up again! So my wonderful husband came up with a plan to attach plant pots to the front of the retaining wall which would be difficult for the Crazy Pup to get to but relatively easy for our crazy Trio to reach.
We set up 6 pots in total with Peppermint, Lettuce, Chives, Tomatoes & Basil, Echinacea & Corriander.
The Trio head out each afternoon before Dinner to water their plants & so far the project has been a success with seedlings coming up in all but one of the pots.
Keep watching to find out how far we can take this project…..will the seedlings survive and thrive? ………Will the Trio eventually be able eat a meal that they have grown with their own 24 fingers and 6 green thumbs?
I’d love to hear any stories of other garden projects that are going on at the moment, especially if we have inspired you to get out there and have a go.
